DREEM Hub Hands Solar Demo Farm to Laikipia Dairy Farmers
This article highlights the DREEM Programme’s peer learning and farmer exposure event held at Solio Dairy Cooperative in Laikipia County, where a solar-powered demonstration farm was officially launched and handed over to local dairy farmers. It explores how agrisolar technologies are helping reduce energy costs, improve productivity, and strengthen resilience in the dairy value chain. The article also captures insights from farmers, partners, and programme representatives on the role of renewable energy in transforming agricultural livelihoods.
DREEM Partners' Conference 2025 Report
The DREEM Partners’ Conference 2025 was held in Limuru, Kenya, and brought together DREEM Hub partners from Kenya Tanzania and Uganda. The conference provided a platform for partners to share experiences, review progress, and strengthen collaboration across the region.
Agrisolar Policy Position Paper
The policy paper highlights the potential of Agri-solar technology to improve smallholder farming and rural livelihoods in East Africa by supporting drought-resilient irrigation, reducing postharvest losses, and expanding access to affordable energy.
Solar Energy Needs Assessment Report
The report examines how solar energy can address persistent energy constraints in Kenya’s dairy and horticulture sectors, which limit productivity, postharvest handling, and farmer incomes. It identifies energy-intensive nodes in the value chains, such as milk cooling in dairy and irrigation and cold storage in horticulture and shows that well-supported solar solutions can reduce spoilage, lower costs, and improve product quality. The study concludes that scaling solar adoption requires coordinated financing, technical support, market linkages, and policy action to create resilient and inclusive agrifood systems.
